Namaskar!

As we approach the end of the 2020 International Women’s History Month, the Fair Count Faith Team is proud to honor the late Rev. Dr. Barbara Lewis King, first bishop of the International New Thought Christian Movement of Churches and founder/minister of the Hillside Chapel and Truth Center Inc. in Atlanta.

Dr. Barbara’s path to the ministry started in her teens at Antioch Baptist in Houston, Texas. Hillside started with just Dr. Barbara and 12 of her prayer partners meeting weekly in her home. Once the Cascade Presbyterian Church complex in Atlanta became available in 1974, her home meetings could be transformed into her vision of a “Church in the Round.” And so was born the Hillside International Truth Center, which today is led by Executive Bishop, Dr. Jack L. Bomar.

Dr. Barbara was a teacher, activist, leader, mother, village chief, and spiritual matron to the world, teaching and uplifting the New Thought Christian lessons across countries and continents. The impact in the faith community and the Black community will be forever remembered and honored.

“Dr. Barbara’s words and teachings raised me,” said Fair Count Faith Team intern Josh Hewing. “Like many others, she is my spiritual mother. I grew up in Hillside, and I can count on my hands how many Sundays I may have missed in the last 22 years.

“I last spoke with the Bishop at a Kwanzaa celebration in 2019. I assisted her in walking back to her office after the event completed. I can’t recall what was said on our walk back from the King’s Chapel; all I know is that her heavenly, powerful presence never left her side.”

We love you, we bless you, we appreciate you, and we thank God for you. And so it is!
