Fair Count has launched two game-changing redistricting tools aimed at driving a fair, transparent redistricting process in Georgia: A public-facing online mapping program that lets anyone compare official maps, community maps, and existing maps to each other in real time, and hundreds of Community of Interest (COI) maps submitted by engaged Georgians.
Map Comparison Tool
- Fair Count, in partnership with the Center for Urban Research at The City University of New York’s (CUNY) Graduate Center, spearheaded by Steven Romalewski, Director of Mapping Services, has released Redistricting & You, a publicly accessible mapping site allowing users to see, in granular detail, the proposed maps as they relate to existing maps. Use the tool now at https://georgia.redistrictingandyou.org/.
COI Maps
- Fair Count, in partnership with the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC), has released hundreds of COI maps drawn by Georgians across the state. They can be accessed by Georgia lawmakers, the public, and the press at https://www.representable.org/map/p/fair/.
Redistricting 101
What Is Redistricting?
Redistricting is the process of redrawing the lines of districts that determine who represents us in government. It typically takes place after the census and affects all jurisdictions that use districts, including state legislatures, county commissions, city councils, and school boards. The lines may be redrawn to account for population shifts, but they can also be redrawn at other times for other reasons – and in a few states, for no reason at all. Redrawing the lines can have a substantial impact on how different communities are grouped together and on communities’ access to resources and services.
In Georgia, the majority party in the General Assembly controls almost all aspects of the redistricting process. Learn more HERE.
What Are Fair Districts?
Fair districts are the result of a redistricting process guided by transparency, bipartisanship, and public input. Maps with fair districts reflect the will of voters, allow for competitive races, and equitably represent communities of color.
Fair districts are also the antidote to gerrymandering.

What Is Redistricting?

How Can I help?
- Attend events held by Georgia lawmakers and make it clear we want fair districts that respect communities, equity, and the voices of voters – written testimony can be submitted HERE at any time. Events are being held in advance of a legislative special session planned for later this year, prior to the 2022 midterm elections.
- Attend a training like Mapping Mondays or Write-In Wednesdays and contribute directly to standing against gerrymandering – redistricting tricks like stacking, packing, and cracking.
- If you’re a faith or elected leader, download one of our toolkits for help getting your community involved in a process that will affect them for the next 10 years.
Redistricting will change the districts that determine the resources our communities get and who represents us for the next TEN years. You CAN influence the fight for fair districts, get others involved, and tell politicians not to divide our communities for their own political gain.
