ATLANTA – Stacey Abrams, who founded Fair Count to ensure all Americans are counted in the U.S. Census, elections, and redistricting, is issuing the following statement on today’s Supreme Court ruling:

“Today, by a 6-3 vote, the Supreme Court vacated previous rulings that had declared as illegal Trump’s attempt to eliminate non-citizens from the Census. This decision threatens to erase entire families and communities from the decennial count, as well as to undermine American democracy by giving way to partisan machinations.

“While this dangerous decision was not unexpected, the Court leaves open the possible restoration of the Census’ intent. America’s diversity is its strength, an ideal enshrined in a Constitution that commands ‘the whole number of persons in each state’ be counted in congressional apportionment. The Trump Administration may seek to use its last days to subvert the Constitution, but we remain vigilant in our fight to protect the future.”

About Fair Count

Founded by Stacey Abrams in 2019 and anchored in Georgia, Fair Count works to build long-term power in communities that have been historically undercounted in the decennial census, underrepresented at the polls, and whose communities are often torn apart in redistricting. FairCount.org
