Voting rights activist Stacey Abrams has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize by a Norwegian lawmaker.
Lars Haltbrekken, a member of parliament in Norway's Socialist Party, said that he nominated Abrams for her work in getting voters to the ballot box in 2020 and 2021.
"Abrams' work follows in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s footsteps in the fight for equality before the law and for civil rights," Haltbrekken said. "Abrams' efforts to complete King's work are crucial if the United States of America shall succeed in its effort to create fraternity between all its peoples and a peaceful and just society."
King won the Nobel Prize in 1964 for his leadership role in the U.S. civil rights movement.
Abrams joins a long list of nominees, including former White House aide Jared Kushner, who is married to former President Donald Trump's daughter.
The World Health Organization and climate activist Greta Thunberg are also on the slate of nominees.
The winner will be announced in October.
